Livin' Lite Recreational Vehicles
The concept for the original pop-up tent camper came into being in an attempt to offer campers an affordable
alternative to tent camping. In the beginning, most pop-up tent campers were basically a means to move off the
ground when sleeping, or to gather in case of inclement weather.
Where the original pop-up manufacturers went wrong, in our opinion, was in their attempt to add all of the same
amenities as a conventional, hard-walled travel trailer. Over the years, pop-up manufacturers added more and more
features to their campers in an attempt to compete with hard-walled units. A fully-loaded pop-up is a nice concept,
but for all practical purposes, the added cost and weight associated with these amenities priced most tent campers
out of the entry-level market. In addition, families now had to purchase a bigger tow vehicle to pull them.
 |
In adding so many amenities and features, many pop-up manufacturers had to cut back on the quality of
construction materials in order to keep the costs lower. This has led to an entire generation of pop-up
tent campers that are loaded with heavy equipment; have extensive and complex operating and LP systems;
are built on plywood floors; have plywood bed bases; are made with 1" wood "sticks" in the walls. They
have stick and paneling cabinetry; stick and paneling dinette bases and cost a whole lot more than most
young families can afford.
